PRESS RELEASE

Congrats to Leo and Tugson press!

Reviews, congrats and comments continue to roll in for the recent 2008 IPPY Award, 1st Place, Gold Medal for Poetry for Leo Shelton and our first publication “RHYTHMS – Poetry and Muse.”  The IPPY Award recognizes “Excellence in Independent Publishing,” and the contest attracted over 3,175 entries in the national categories and over 600 entries in the regional competition from over 49 U.S. states, D.C., and U.S. Virgin Islands; 9 Canadian provinces, and 16 countries around the world, according to Jenkins Group, who sponsors the award.  Of RHYTHMS, and Leo Shelton, Nina Diamond, a 2008 Judge of the IPPY Awards, said:

“An enormously talented man, a complete artist”

“His work is all encompassing, you can imagine it as a state play or as lyrics to a song…I would love to see the poems performed as a part of a dance piece.”  Honesty, intimacy, ability to communicate at a gut level!  I’ll remember this for the rest of my life.  I hope that this is a voice that continues to be heard.”

SOUL-FULL – Poetry
Sophomore release a profound and eclectic poet – SOUL-FULL – Poetry, by Leo Shelton

Temple Hills, MD - Tugson Press is proud to announce the release of its second publication….SOUL-FULL a book of poetry published by Tugson Press and author/owner Leo Shelton.

A follow-up to his debut release, RHYTHMS – Poetry and Muse, Shelton passionately articulates a love affair of words, between two poets, that is both is deep, articulate, and intense.  It is a love affair of spiritual connections, with a profound respect and admiration for words and flow; an emotionally charged dialogue that resonate deep and true through the movements of words, and where the muse and counter is obvious and present but not physically representative.

Another journey of emotions, through reflections, insights, and a dance and flow, that is both uniquely his but shared by the reader—any reader.

Leo Shelton is an author, poet, writer, educator, scholar, and a self-proclaimed life long learner and student of life.  An urban renaissance, influenced by the classic works of artists and legends as Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni, Langston Hughes and Marlon Riggs, he also credits influences such as Robert Hayden, Richard Wright, Walt Whitman, and Paul Laurence Dunbar as well as many of the artists today in music, spoken word, and creative expressions like Terrance Hayes, Tim’m West, Common and Floetry, for helping him to find his voice and place in writing.
